There are three segments of battery energy storage systems set on the surface of less than 1.000 m2, each with capacity of 4.200 MVA which together amounts to 12.600 MVA or 22,2 MWh. This is the largest Tesla Powerpack storage system installed in Europe. At the same time, this project represents an important milestone in implementing a new approach to the balancing of the Slovenia's power grid. With this form of power storage, electricity is stored from the grid when the demand is low, but when the demand for it increases, the energy is transmitted back into the grid. This kind of balancing is important precisely because electricity production and consumption are never in sync.
All Tesla equipment, which is cabinets with Li-ion batteries, router and control devices is housed outdoors, while low-voltage power distributors, telecommunication devices and power transformers are set installed in the building.
IBE's role in the project of battery energy storage system in Jesenice includes the overall conceptual design of the facility, design and technical documentation with construction works supervision.
