The beginnings...
IBE was founded as Hidroelektroprojekt in 1949 with the aim of designing hydropower facilities. The company, for which its first director, Valentin Tomše, was a key figure, was established through a merger: the Project Institute of the People's Republic of Slovenia for Hydroelectric Power Plants, based in Ljubljana, which had been designing the Moste hydroelectric power station since 1946, and the Medvode hydroelectric power plant project, a group in Maribor (Brigada Drava), which designed the main project for the Mariborski otok hydroelectric power plant and started the Vuzenica hydroelectric power plant project in 1948, the Slovenia Project Group in Ljubljana, which designed the substations and transmission lines, and experts who came from the disbanded Central Design Bureau of the Ministry of Electrical Energy in Belgrade.

The founding act was issued by the Government of the People's Republic of Slovenia and the company was assigned the role of designer of electricity facilities for the Republic of Slovenia. During the first years of development, the company's activities quickly expanded into other energy fields and the company was renamed Elektroprojekt.
By the 1960s, the activity was already covering industry and engineering, and the company was renamed Inženirski biro Elektroprojekt, from which the present name IBE derives. During more than half a century of development, IBE has made a significant contribution to the technical knowledge and development of Slovenia by being involved in numerous investment projects, thus becoming, and gradually consolidating its position as the leading Slovenian engineering consultancy.
...and today
The nature of IBE's work and its long tradition have established shared values, which include the conviction of our colleagues of the need to ensure high quality of our services, the acceptance of personal responsibility for the realization of commitments and working in teams. This contributes to better results and the transfer of knowledge to younger colleagues, and last but not least, the acceptance of the standards of business ethics and the Code of Conduct of engineering consultancies.
Significant Milestones
From the former design team of the Mariborski otok hydroelectric power plant, a company for the design of hydroelectric power facilities on the Drava River was founded under the name Hidroelektroprojekt.
The company's activities are expanded to other market areas of the energy industry and the company is renamed Elektroprojekt.
Entry into the industrial and infrastructure markets and change of company name to Inženirski biro Elektroprojekt (abbreviated IBE).
The Krško Nuclear Power Plant is put into full operation.
Privatization of the company and transformation into a modern joint-stock company called IBE, d.d., svetovanje, projektiranje in inženiring (abbreviated IBE d.d.).
Establishment of the parent company IBE Holding, d.d., a partnership based on the partnership of a wider circle of employees and providing independence to the parent company IBE, d.d., svetovanje, projektiranje in inženiring.
The Brežice Hydroelectric Power Plant is put into operation.
Cirkovce-Pince transmission line becomes operational.
