Krško Nuclear Power Plant
Project
Brežice Solar Power Plant
Facility name
Brežice Solar Power Plant
Investor / Client
Hidroelektrarne na spodnji Savi, d.o.o.
Location
Brežice, Slovenia
Time period
2019 - 2023
Facility size / Capacity
Rated power: 6 MWp
In 2023, the largest solar power plant built in Slovenia in terms of rated power.
Project basis and goals
The photovoltaic power plant is located in a sediment disposal area next to the flow storage basin of the Brežice hydroelectric power plant, on a 6 hectare level plateau a few kilometres from the power plant.
The solar panels are connected to the Brežice HPP switching station via a rectifier and a transformer. The solar power plant thus constitutes one of the generating sets of the hybrid power plant and is connected to the 110 kV transmission grid via the grid transformer of the hydropower plant. To optimise the connection equipment, a short-circuit current limiter - the so-called Is limiter - has been installed.
The designed project solutions provide the possibility to carry out additional power plant expansions.
Challenges and specifics
By using different types of generators, locally controlled operation and a flow storage as energy storage, the efficiency of the generated electricity is optimised, thus successfully coping with unpredictable fluctuations in solar electricity production.
IBE services
IBE prepared conceptual design, documentation for obtaining a building permit, tender documentation, a part of the project for construction implementation and participated in the selection of the contractor for the Brežice D3 solar power plant and its integration into the power system. During construction, IBE also acted as technical advisor and project supervisor.
