Project
Kobarid Substation
Facility name
Kobarid Substation
Investor / Client
SODO
Location
Kobarid, Slovenia
Time period
2016-2020
Facility size / capacity
Voltage levels: 110/35/20 kV
The Kobarid substation improves the electricity infrastructure in Upper Posočje.
Project basis and goals
The 110/35/20 kV Kobarid substation is built to improve the voltage conditions for end users in Upper Posočje, including relieving the existing substations, increasing the off-take capacity at the 20 kV level, upgrading ageing equipment, reducing voltage sags and improving voltage regulation, and channelling power towards Bovec.
Solutions development
The RTP 110/35/20 kV Kobarid transformer substation is intended for the distribution of electricity in the wider electric power supply area of Kobarid and its surroundings. The 20 kV feeds the distribution transformer substations TP 20/0,4 kV, and the 35 kV feeds the distribution transformer substations TP 35/20 kV in the vicinity of Bovec.
Challenges and specifics
The location in a protected natural environment, next to the river, posed one of the key challenges in the siting of the building, which was cleverly implemented by the external appearance of the building, which includes bands of aluminium sheeting of different widths, coloured in patinated green, thus complementing the surroundings of the building, as well as discreetly reflecting the colour palette of the River Soča and, last but not least, maintaining the harmony between the building and the natural environment.
IBE services
IBE produced conceptual design, a project for obtaining a building permit, tender documentation, a project for the construction implementation and the as-built project documentation.
During construction, IBE was involved in a technical advisory and design supervision role.
