The Moste storage hydroelectric power plant boasts the highest arch dam in Slovenia, with a height of 60 m.
General
The highest arch dam in Slovenia, 52 m long and 60 m high, located in the narrowest part of the Kavčka gorge below Žirovnica, has formed a storage lake of 6,240,000 m³. With a gross drop of 70.45 metres and two vertical Francis turbines installed during the 2008 renovation, replacing the original three Francis turbines of 2 x 7 MW, this is the only weekly storage hydro power plant in Slovenia to generate 57.2 GWh of electricity per year.
The entire power system of the Moste HPP is complemented by the Završnica HPP, built in 1914, which is connected to the engine room by an intake tunnel and constitutes a fourth unit generating an additional 5 GWh with an 8 MW Francis turbine and a 177.2 m drop.
The electricity generated can supply approximately 17.100 households.
IBE services
In 1947, a project was drawn up on the scale of today's Moste HPP (including the Kavčke dam, a derivation tunnel and a half-buried engine house on the left bank of the Sava River). The project was drawn up by the Project Institute of the LRS - Department for Hydroelectric Power Plants from Ljubljana, which was the immediate predecessor of the later Hidroelektroprojekt (later Elektroprojekt, today IBE), which was established in 1949 (later Elektroprojekt, today's IBE).
IBE also subsequently produced for the client:
