The Boštanj HPP is the second hydropower plant in a chain of six hydropower plants on the lower Sava River.

General

The Boštanj hydroelectric power plant, with a rated capacity of 32.5MW, is the second in a chain of six hydroelectric power plants on the Lower Sava River. It is designed as a storage-flow type of hydropower plant with three double-regulated horizontal tube Kaplan turbines and 5 overflow fields.

The power plant's nominal flow rate of 500 m³/s and a drop of 7.47 m allows the water potential of the storage basin with a volume of 8,000,000 m³ to be exploited for the annual production of 109 GWh of electricity from a renewable source, which is of key importance for the sustainability of the energy system.

The electricity generated can supply approximately 28,700 households.
