The building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is designed as a dynamic structure of horizontal planes, placed on the edge of the newly developing technology campus Brdo.
Project basis and goals
The winning architectural competition solution of the Sadar + Vuga office for the building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, with the support of IBE engineers, was recognized as an innovative, attractive, modern and at the same time functional solution.
Despite the extensive program content, the new building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering functions as a modern structure of horizontal surfaces of various sizes and shapes, which respond to external and internal parameters, represents protection from the elements and at the same time creates different microambients.
Project solutions
The program in the building is divided into a pedagogical and a laboratory part, which are interconnected on the ground floor through the central space of the faculty. The pedagogical part of the building is located in the northern part of the ground floor and the first floor with classrooms, offices and computer rooms. In the southern part of the building there are laboratories, arranged both on the ground floor and on the 1st and 2nd floors. The third floor is dedicated to the common program of the faculty, such as the dean's office, library, restaurant, functional training space and multi-purpose space for events and celebrations next to the main staircase. All common areas on all floors open onto green outdoor terraces and at the same time offer attractive views.
Challenges and specifics
The design of the building is carried out in accordance with the DGNB system of sustainable construction and shows a well-thought-out design that combines the layout of the rooms flexibility, the lighting of the building, short paths, the use of sustainable materials as well as innovative energy-efficient solutions. The biggest planning challenge of the project is also the demanding structural design of the facility with a deep foundation, which enables the establishment of top laboratory conditions with very diverse program requirements.
IBE services
In the project of the new Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, IBE, as a leading partner of the consortium, participates in the preparation of all phases of project documentation in BIM technology in the fields of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering, fire safety and partly also architecture.
