Project basis and goals
Slovenia has defined investments in the development of educational and research infrastructure, including in the field of higher education, as one of its key development priorities. The investment in the new premises of the University of Ljubljana, the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology (UL FKKT) and the Faculty of Computer and Information Science (UL FRI) represents the establishment of conditions for the promotion and creation of a more innovative and technologically advanced economy and the opening of more opportunities for employment with high added value. This strengthens cooperation between education and research and the economy.
UL FKKT and UL FRI represent institutions in the context of rapidly developing and widely applicable fields of science. Their activity strives for scientific achievements in very promising fields.
Project solutions
In 2007, the land at the Faculty of Biotechnology was assessed as the most suitable for the new construction of UL FKKT. Additional studies also paved the way for UL's decision to build a joint facility for FKKT and FRI at the location in Brdo. During the siting of the buildings, special attention was paid to environmental issues, since the subject land borders the area of the Tivoli landscape park. The construction of FKKT and FRI was the largest project in the history of the University of Ljubljana, which was partially co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund.
The total gross internal area of the buildings is 42,046 m2, of which 10,516 m2 is parking space.
The gross internal area of FKKT is 24,882 m2, of which 7,436 m2 is parking space. The gross internal area of FRI is 13,177 m2, of which 3,081 m2 is parking space. There are 8 lecture halls in both buildings.
IBE services
In the field of mechanical and electrical engineering for FKKT and FRI IBE produced conceptual solutions, documentation for obtaining a building permit, a project for construction implementation and participated in the role of technical consulting and design supervision during construction.
