The construction of Bunker Building 2 provides safety systems to mitigate beyond-design project accidents.
Project basis and goals
The construction of BB2 ensures the management of accidents with increased design requirements, including ensuring the integrity of the containment in the event of a core melt.
The central facility for the implementation of all technical solutions for the safety upgrade of NPP is the new Bunker Building 2 (BB2), which houses the safety systems for the mitigation of beyond-design accidents. The BB2 project includes the design of the building (BB2) and the connections of the various new systems within BB2 to the existing systems, buildings and components.
Project solutions
The BB2 project is covered in more detail by the following main sections:
- BB2 building with ancillary systems
- Alternative Safety Injection (ASI) system
- Alternative Auxiliary Feedwater System (AAF)
- Building BB2 back-up power supply
The 38 m x 32 m building, which meets the highest standards of safety and resistance to external influences (earthquake, flood safety) or emergencies (e.g. aircraft crash), contains 3,500 m3 of concrete and 380 tonnes of reinforcement.
The building houses a borated and a plain water tank with associated pumps for water injection into the reactor and the two evaporators.
IBE services
- From the very beginning of the project, IBE has been involved in the preparation of all phases of the project documentation, from the technical basis, the conceptual design, the project for obtaining a building permit, to the documentation for the construction implementation (PZI), which was the basis for the start of the construction works, which culminated in the elaboration of the as-built project documentation (PID).
- In addition to the above, IBE and its partners, in accordance with the internal procedures of the client, prepared the DMP (design modification package) and TOP (turnover package) documentation for the 4 design modifications of the power plant and, during the implementation phase, provided support to the contractors and the preparation of the FDCR (field design change request) documentation.
