Gas pipelines ensure unhindered transmission and distribution of gas from production sites to end users.
Project basis and goals
Natural gas is a product of the decomposition of organic substances, it is the cleanest fuel of fossil origin, with the lowest CO2 emission during combustion. It is universally applicable in industry, in households or wide consumption, for the production of heat and electricity, in the co-production of electricity and heat and as a fuel in transport (compressed natural gas CNG and liquefied natural gas LNG).
Natural gas in its gaseous state is transported with the help of transmission pipelines and compressor stations and metering and regulation stations, which together form a transmission pipeline network that includes: 1,200 km of gas pipelines, compressor stations in Kidričevo and Ajdovščina and 250 metering and regulation stations, thus connecting most Slovenian cities and industrial centers.
A look into the future and the development of transmission gas pipeline systems
In the future, decarbonisation of the gas system will be based on replacing natural gas with renewable gases such as biomethane, synthetic methane and green hydrogen. Synthetic methane and biomethane are very similar in composition to natural gas and can be injected into the transmission system.
For the transition to renewable energy sources (RES) and the greening of the gas pipeline system by 2030, the implementation of a pilot project of injecting green hydrogen, which is produced by electrolysis of water with the help of electricity from renewable energy sources (solar, wind or hydroelectric energy), is planned.
Joint projects of this type of the Slovenian Initiative for Connecting Sectors (P2G - Power To Gas) and PCI hydrogen projects represent concrete steps in the direction of reducing the carbon footprint, diversifying the energy system and promoting sustainable development in the energy sector.
IBE services
IBE has participated and still participates in the design of most projects of the transmission gas pipeline network in the Republic of Slovenia, the activities of which include: expert bases for the routing of transmission gas pipelines with the help of national spatial plans, production of documentation for obtaining building permits, production of tenders for the construction of facilities and preparation of projects for construction implementation. IBE employs a comprehensive professional team of experts from all disciplines for the planning and siting of facilities of the transmission gas pipeline system.
In the period from 2004-2014, IBE produced project documentation for the following gas transmission pipelines:
• M2/1, Rogaška Slatina – Trojane, DN 800, 70 bar, construction, 86 km
• M2/1, Trojane - Vodice, DN800, 70 bar, construction, 36 km
• M1/3, Austria – Slovenia (MMRP Ceršak), DN800, 70 bar, construction, 3 km
• transmission pipeline to MRP Štore, construction, 50 bar, 1.5 km
• M1/1, Kidričevo - Rogatec, DN800, 70 bar, construction, 32 km
• M2/1, Rogatec – Rogaška Slatina, DN800, 70 bar, construction, 9 km
• R25D, Šentrupert - Šoštanj, DN400, 70 bar, construction, 32 km
In the period from 2014-2024, IBE also produced project documentation for the following gas distribution pipelines for various clients:
• ISTRABENZ Plini d.o.o. gas pipeline network of the Municipalities of Litija and Koper;
• DOMPLAN d.d. Gas pipeline network Stražišče, Drulovka;
• ADRIAPLIN d.o.o. gas pipeline network of Municipalities: Ajdovščina, Ptuj, Zreče, Kamnik, Murska Sobota, Brežice, Čatež, Krško;
• Renovation of measurement and regulation stations (MRS): Hrastnik, Murska Sobota, Zreče.
